Destination Wedding Trends for 2026

Destination Wedding Trends for 2026 Are Intimate, Intentional & Unforgettable

If you’ve been dreaming about a destination wedding, let me reassure you that destination weddings are not slowing down. They are simply evolving.

And as someone who plans destination weddings, I can tell you firsthand: couples in 2026 are craving something more intentional, more personal, and far more meaningful than the cookie-cutter weddings of the past.

Here are a few of the biggest destination wedding trends and why they matter to you as a couple.

1. Smaller Guest Lists, Bigger Experiences

The days of destination weddings with 200-guest are fading, and honestly most couples aren’t sad about it.

Micro-weddings and intimate celebrations (often 50 guests or fewer) are one of the strongest trends heading into 2026. Couples would rather spend their budget on:

  • A stunning location
  • Elevated dining and cocktails
  • A longer stay with their closest people
  • Unique welcome events, catamaran sails, or private dinners

Smaller doesn’t mean less…it means more quality time, more personalization, and a wedding that feels unique to you.

2. Couples Are Saying “No” to Wedding Mills

This is a big one, because todays couples don’t want back-to-back ceremonies or assembly-line weddings or resorts that host three weddings all before sunset.

Instead, they’re asking for properties that limit weddings to one per day (or even one per week), offer dedicated wedding teams, and create an experience that feels exclusive and unrushed.

There are some stunning resorts out there that fly under the radar and properties that focus on service, atmosphere, and romance rather than volume. These are the kinds of options I love introducing couples to.

3. Europe Is Stepping into the Spotlight

While Mexico and the Caribbean continue to be very popular (and for good reason), I’m seeing a growing interest in European destination weddings for 2026.

With locations like Mallorca, Portugal and parts of Italy and coastal Spain are especially appealing to couples who want old-world charm, dramatic scenery, and a wedding that doubles as a once-in-a-lifetime travel experience for their guests.

That said, Riviera Maya, the Dominican Republic, and Jamaica are still very much trending for the tropical vibe. The key is choosing the right property for the experience you want to have.

What This Means for You

If you’re planning a destination wedding, the most important thing you can do is work with someone who listens, I mean really listens to what you want your wedding to feel like.

The couples having the best experiences aren’t chasing trends.

They’re choosing intention…They’re choosing expertise…They’re choosing a wedding that feels like them.

The couples who are flexible, open-minded, and well-guided are creating the most beautiful celebrations for both themselves and their guests. This means thoughtful timelines, experiences from arrival to departure and little touches that reflect you and your relationship.
