Over packing your luggage can lead to over weight luggage.

Packing Made Easy: How to Feel Fabulous Without Overpacking

Let’s Talk Packing… Because You Really Don’t Need 14 Pairs of Shoes

So… the flights are booked, the countdown is on, and now it’s time to tackle one of the most debated parts of travel—packing!

If you’re anything like me, the minute the suitcase comes out, so does the “what if” syndrome.

What if I spill something? What if it’s colder than expected? What if I just don’t feel like wearing that dress?

Sound familiar?

Yep, I’ve been there too—overpacking “just in case,” cramming it all into the big suitcase and hoping it zips (without tipping the scale at check-in). But over the years and many trips later, I’ve learned that packing less doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style or comfort. It just means packing smarter.

Roll your clothes to help prevent creasing.

So, whether you’re heading off on a romantic getaway, an anniversary trip, or your dream vacation together—here are my favorite tips to help you feel fabulous without the luggage drama:

1. Start With a List

Yes, I know… lists can feel boring, but trust me—they’re gold. Jot down the types of activities you have planned: beach days, dinners out, hikes, spa time, sightseeing… then plan outfits around those. This helps you stay focused and avoid tossing in three extra dresses just because. (Psst… I even send my clients a packing checklist with their travel documents—because it really does help!)

2. Pack Light, Pack Right

Stick with versatile pieces in a color palette that plays well together—think mix and match. That black tank can go from beach to dinner with the right accessories. And shoes? Try to keep it to three: one comfy pair to wear, one for dressier evenings, and one pair of sandals or casuals to tuck into your bag.

3. Downsize the Toiletries

Invest in reusable travel containers you can fill with your favorite products. It’s easier on your wallet and the environment. Bonus tip? Leave the heavy styling tools at home. Instead, pack some sponge rollers—pop them in while you sip coffee, and boom: soft waves, no extra baggage.

4. Roll It, Don’t Fold It

I’m a roller. It saves space and helps avoid wrinkles. Jeans, tees, sundresses—roll ’em up and slide them right in. And if you’re a visual organizer like me, packing cubes are a game-changer.

Packing Cubes can help keep you organized.

5. Use Packing Cubes or Compression Bags

Packing cubes keep things organized and make unpacking a breeze—just pop them straight into drawers when you arrive. Compression bags are great if you’re really trying to squeeze more into a carry-on. Both will help you feel a little more in control (and a lot less overwhelmed).

6. Keep Essentials Close

Your passports, travel docs, medication, and a spare outfit? Keep those in your carry-on. If your checked luggage takes the scenic route, you’ll be glad you did. I would also suggest for women as your personal item, try to get a cross over body bag to keep it close to your person.

7. Know Before You Go

Check the weather. Think about local customs. And don’t forget to pack a light layer (like a pashmina or cardigan) for those cooler evenings or unexpected breezes. Layers are lifesavers, trust me.

All packed and ready to go!

Bonus Tip: Leave a Little Room

Especially if this trip is something special—a celebration, a once-in-a-lifetime destination, or just a much-needed getaway for two—leave space for a keepsake or two. That scarf from a Parisian market? That hand-painted ceramic from Mexico? You’ll want to bring a piece of the adventure home.

Packing light means less stress, fewer “ugh, why did I bring this” moments, and more room for the memories you’ll make.

Ready to plan your next trip of a lifetime, and want some help getting all the details just right—from the destination to the dress code—I’d love to be a part of your journey.
